Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has taken drastic measures to improve the chaotic traffic situation in Lagos state. According to reports, Young Arabamen, the Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), has been removed from office today, Monday. He was replaced by a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, Christian Akioja Olakpe.
According to Akinwunmi Ambode, the Governor of Lagos State, Olakpe's appointment was part of efforts to revamp the agency for improved performance and better relations with the public. The impetus expected with the previous appointment was not fully actualized due to the docile nature of the headship of the Authority," he said. Ambode explained that Olakpe is qualified for the job based on his wealth of experience.
The new LASTMA boss studied Sociology and Anthropology from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He is a graduate of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, Jos. He joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1982 and was at different times Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa and Plateau States.
